At the time when the Indian Automobile industry is gearing up for the upcoming Auto Expo 2016, and suiting up for new launches at the event; there are automakers who can’t wait till the event. One of them happens to be General Motors (GM), who just flipped out a new card from their deck.GM India launched their powerful diesel sedan, the all-new Chevrolet Cruze 2016 just a couple of days ahead of the 2016 Auto Expo. The new Cruze 2016 is priced between INR 14.68 lakh and INR 17.81 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi). Well, it is not an all-new Cruze, it is the same old sedan with fancy touches and extra features. Not a world of a difference but refreshed facelift!
On the visual front, the exterior styling has been refreshed on the Chevrolet Cruze 2016. The interiors are pumped up with additional features. The front fascia is reworked and features dual bezel design headlamps with ‘follow me home’ tech, new LED DRLs & projector foglamps. Other exterior features include an electric sunroof on top, power folding and heated ORVMs, all 4 power windows with express down with driver side window equipped with express up and pinch guard. The fancy touches on the rear section comprise of split design tail lamps, chrome exhaust pipe finisher, chrome trunk-lid garnish.
The interior highlights include premium black and titanium wraparound theme with monotone jet black seats with titanium stitch highlights. The cockpit design is inspired by one of Chevrolet’s supercars. The new 7 inch MY-LINK Touchscreen Infotainment System comes with embedded applications like Sticher SmartRadio, Grace Note & Siri Eyes free compatibility, Bluetooth audio streaming. In addition, it also features Phone telephony with voice recognition control and touch controls for automatic HVAC & Vehicle Personalisation settings. The new multi-function steering wheel is draped in leather and is equipped with mounted controls.
The Chevrolet Cruze 2016 is powered by a turbocharged 2.0-litre VCDi engine that generates power of 166 PS and a peak torque of 380 Nm. The power is pushed to the wheels by a 6-speed manual or automatic transmission. As per International Center for Automotive Technology (ICAT), the Gen2 6-Speed Automatic Transmission delivers fuel economy of 14.81 km while the manual variant returns a fuel efficiency of 17.9 km. The drive quality of the diesel sedan is complimented by a gas-charged McPherson strut type suspension in the front and U-shaped suspension with torsion beams, gas-charged shock at the rear.
On the safety front, the Chevrolet Cruze 2016 is equipped with dual front airbags and two side airbags. The safety cage built with reinforced pillars with tubular bars is claimed to provide optimum protection to passengers. Sensor-assisted ABS tech has enhanced the braking efficiency and shorter stopping distances. The Passive Entry Passive Start (PEPS) automatically controls the central locking system, anti-theft alarm and ignition.
