Michelin India ready to roll

Michelin group, one of the biggest and oldest tyre manufactrer in the world is all set to start production in India. The French manufacturer will be investing Rs 4000 crore to set up a radial tyre manufacturing plant at Gummudipoondi in Tiruvallur district of the southern State of Tamil Nadu. The plant will be operational by 2012 and will make tyres for buses and trucks. The company has made this move to focus on the growing Indian market by signing an MoU with the Tamil Nadu government on Monday (16/11/09) for this project.

The company, popularly known by its mascot ‘Bib the Michelin Man’ makes tyres for all kinds of automobiles, aeroplanes, trucks and farm equipments for which It has has 68 production plants in 19 countries across 5 continents. The company also has a very glorious history in premier motorsport series like the F1 and MotoGP. The arrival of Michelin in India is an indicator of the boom in the Indian automobile market and the importance it has internationally.
