Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza to get a petrol engine by April 2017

Till date, Maruti Suzuki hasn’t offered a petrol engine option on its best selling UV, the Vitara Brezza. The compact SUV is currently powered by only one engine option – the 1.3-litre DDiS diesel engine. Maruti is said to be working on a petrol powered Vitara Brezza, and if a report is to be believed, it’ll be launched in April 2017, an year after the compact SUV was launched.

The engine in question could be the 1.5-litre, four cylinder petrol mill that’s reportedly under development and is rumored to be introduced in the S-Cross and Ciaz next year. However, it being over 1.2 liters in displacement doesn’t really hold both sides of the sub-4 meter equation (in case of the Vitara Brezza), so we’re counting against it. The other option could be the new, 1.0-litre Boosterjet turbo-petrol engine that’s going to be locally manufactured  in India soon, while being introduced in the upcoming Baleno RS.

According to other reports, Maruti isn’t considering the 1.2-liter K Series petrol engine for the Brezza, leaving the K14B engine from the Ciaz and Ertiga as the third and final option. The Brezza’s petrol engine (whatever it might be), would come mated to a 5-speed manual transmission as standard, while an optional automatic transmission is also a possibility.
