Maruti Suzuki S-Cross India launch set for first week of July 2015

It seems that the ‘Crossover’ market in India is readying itself to set fire to sales charts of their respective manufacturers. We have only just known about Hyundai’s plans to launch the Creta earlier than expected. Now it seems, is the chance of Maruti Suzuki to get their ball rolling on their all-new S-Cross.

The Maruti Suzuki S-Cross will hit our market before the Hyundai Creta.

The crossover will be making its public debut at the upcoming IIFA awards in Malaysia. Post which, Maruti Suzuki dealerships in India will make room for the S-Cross on showroom floors. Though quite compact in size, the Maruti Suzuki S-Cross doesn’t measure under the bounty 4-metre mark. What it is 4.3 metres long, just over 1.7 metre wide and almost 1.6 metres tall at the roofline. In international market, the S-Cross gets 170mm of ground clearance. However, for the Indian market, Maruti Suzuki is sure to raise that number by a fair margin. The S-Cross measures 2.6 metres between the front and rear wheels.

The Maruti Suzuki S-Cross isn’t a sub-4 metre crossover like the Ford EcoSport.

On the practicality front, the Maruti Suzuki’s crossover will have 430 litres of boot space. This can be increased to 1269 litres with the rear bench folded away. Turning radius of the crossover is 5.2 metres. Once in India, Maruti Suzuki will be offering the S-Cross with petrol and diesel engines. For global markets, the carmaker avails the S-Cross with an all-new 1.6-litre 4-cylinder petrol engine that makes 115 PS and 156 Nm of torque. The 1.6-litre oil burner gets to play with 118 PS and 320 Nm of twist. According to Overdrive, both of these powerplants are to make it to the Indian S-Cross as well. That said, Maruti could likely offer their existing K14 series 1.4-litre petrol and the 1.3-litre DDiS diesel units for the S-Cross in India.

The Indian versions will mostly come with just a manual gearbox.

We expect the India-bound Maruti Suzuki S-Cross to be available in VXi/VDi and ZXi/ZDi trim. The former variants will get 10-spoke alloy wheels and standard halogen bulbs for the headlight unit. The top-end Z variants will get turn indicators in the ORVMs, fancier 14-spoke alloys, projector lamps and LED daytime-running lights. On the exterior bits, the India-bound S-Cross will only come with a two-slat front grille, but may gain some chrome bits at the rear. Being a Maruti Suzuki product, we expect the S-Cross to wear an attractive price tag. However, we will have to wait a bit longer to realise the actual pricing in India.

We will keep you updated on the Maruti Suzuki S-Cross in times to come. In the meanwhile, have a peek at the international variant in the image gallery below.
