Maruti Suzuki has launched its Multi-Purpose Vehicle (MPV) at the Auto Expo today. The five-seater variant of the MPV has been priced at Rs.2,59,000 while the seven-seater variant will retail for Rs.2,75,000. The manufacturer had earlier also unveiled an electric version of the vehicle. Maruti Suzuki intends sales of the Eeco to hover around the 40,000 unit mark annually. The electric EECO’s will be on taxi duty at the 2010 commonwealth games, while the petrol powered EECOs go on sale from today.

Suzuki showcased the Kizashi sedan as well. As per our sources, the car is slated for an India launch by late 2010. We are speculating that Diwali 2010 would be the time when Maruti Suzuki might choose to lauch the luxury sedan.

Maruti Suzuki showcased the EECO EV. It is powered by a 5KW lithium ion battery pack which gives the MPV a range of 100kms and pushes it a top-speed of 100kph.

Live Update From Auto Expo 10.20 am – Concept rIII launched!

Concept R3

The RIII boasts of 3 rows of seats which is why the car is named as R’3′. This is Maruti’s first concept vehicle to be completely designed within India itself in a span of just 9 months. The interiors are incorporated with a typical ‘water flow’ theme. The cuts and edges in the interiors are designed in such a way that it looks like flowing water. The sides of the dashboard also resembles a waterfall.

IV Rao, the technical head of Maruti said “The big car is here because families have grown up and needs have changed. The idea for the R3 was to design something for larger families rather than conventional small cars”. The car will feature a K-Series between the range of 1.2-litre to 1.4-litre. Maruti may also add a CNG variant to the car. Shinzo Nakanishi, MD & CEO, Maruti Suzuki India said, “The company will introduce their latest CNG technology in a few months time”. With Volkswagen recently buying 20% Suzuki stakes, there is also a high possibility that the new concept may be powered by a VW heart.

Maruti Suzuki has just launched the Concept rIII. The compact multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) brings about an interesting mobility solution for users, who want to move together in a big family concept. Concept rIII carries forward the aggressive Suzuki design seen in the recent Swift, Ritz, A-Star and SX4.

Suzuki, by far India’s biggest manufacturer has a list of interesting products lined-up for the Expo. Leading the charge will be the D-segment saloon, Kizashi accompanied by the indigenously developed EECO van, the SX4 on a diesel diet and last but not the least, the 2010 Swift.

Maruti Suzuki Wagon R, will also make an appearance at the Auto Expo, donning the 1.0 litre K-series engine for the first time. This move has been made by the company to comply with the Bharat IV emission norms. we can expect a tad bit rise in the price tag of the Wagon R too.

Maruti Suzuki will also showcasw its first Compact Multi- purpose vehicle christened as Concept R3. The 6 seater Concept MPV has been designed and built from scratch by a team of talented designers from India in just nine months. Maruti Suzuki will showcase 17 cars and will be placed in Hall no. 14 at Pragati Maidan.

SX4 Hatchback:

The SX4 hatchback will be on display at the Maruti-Suzuki stall. The car is a popular choice among buyers in the European countries. Internationally the car is offered to buyers with multiple engine options including a 2.0 litre, 1.6 litre, and 1.5 litre petrol engines. At the Auto Expo, the 2.0 litre engine variant of the SX4 hatchback featuring 205/60 size tyres on all new 16″, five spoke alloy wheels will be showcased.

Kizashi:

  • Price: Rs 18 to 20 lakh (On-Road).
  • Launch: March 2010
  • Vital Statistics:
  • Engine: 2.4-litre, 188 PS, 230Nm.
  • Performance: 0-100 kph, 7.5seconds (claimed).
  • Rivals: Accord, Superb, Camry and Teana. It will be a fantastic VFM buy of the D-segment.
