The new Maruti Suzuki Celerio will be a complete model replacement for the current gen Alto in most international markets. For India though, the Celerio will take place of the slow selling AStar and the discontinued Estilo. The Alto 800, which is basically a re-bodied last gen Alto F8, will continue selling in our country.

The Maruti Suzuki Celerio India spec model will be powered by a 1.0 litre, three pot, K10 petrol engine that can be found powering the Alto K10, the AStar, the WagonR and the Estilo. This three cylinder engine has always been liked by us for its peppy performance and frugal nature. For the AStar, this motor pumps out a max power output of 67bhp and bestows it with a claimed FE of almost 21 kmpl. For the Celerio though, it is expected that both these figures will go up by a considerable margin. The Celerio though, has an ARAI certified fuel economy of around 23.1 kmpl and we expect the max power to be around 69bhp.

Celerio’s claim to fame though, is its AMT (Automated Manual Transmission), which will be seen for the first time on an upper A segment hatchback in India. Celerio’s AMT will be marketed as EZ Drive and we won’t really be too surprised to see people quickly becoming fond of this car’s transmission. An AMT totally does away with the need of depressing the clutch to play between the gears, thereby reducing the fatigue levels in heavy traffic conditions by a considerable level. Also, AMTs are cheaper than conventional automatic transmissions and also bestow the car with higher fuel efficiency.

The Maruti Suzuki Celerio India price is likely to be very close to that of the AStar and we really won’t be too surprised to see the upcoming model soon becoming a force to reckon with in the small car market.
