Mahindra recently launched the e-Verito, the electric version of its only sedan at Rs. 9.5 lakh (Ex-showroom, Delhi). As we wait for this model to start rolling on the streets, the Indian automobile manufacturer seems to have some more news for us. If reports are to be believed, Mahindra is said to be working on two more products that will be launched by the end of the current year.

Speaking at the 2nd National Workshop & Exhibition on FAME India, Pawan Sachdeva, Senior General Manager, Mahindra Reva was quoted saying that they will launch two new products by the end of the year. He added that as far as electric vehicles are concerned, they think that the inflexion point is here and hence they see a big opportunity in this space. He further added that about 42% of the total passenger electric vehicles ever sold internationally were in 2015.

China is one country in the world that gives production subsidy apart from incentives for buyers on electric and hybrid vehicles. The country accounted for 34% of the global electric vehicles sales in 2015 with a sale of 1,76,627 units whereas India sold a mere 753 units for the same period. As for subsidies, India does give a few of them such as the NEMMP (National Electric Mobility Mission Plan) but these don’t seem to be sufficient enough to push the sales chart upwards.
