We have been regular with reporting about the eagerly awaited Tata Nano Diesel, which could really change the face of entry level car market in India. In the recent development, Karl Slym, Managing Director and CEO of Tata Motors, have confirmed that the Nano diesel would be launched in this financial year. He said.”The diesel Nano is still (going) ahead, but not launched yet… This financial year.”

Visually, the Nano diesel will be slightly different to the petrol sibling.  Numerous spy pics have revealed that the upcoming diesel variant will sport a new front bumper that would lend a sporty touch to the small car. The same images also reveal that the car will get a new rear windscreen, a revised tailgate and a new rear bumper. The tailgate will be ‘open-able’ like that of any other hatchback. Another minor visual difference here is that the Nano diesel has its exhaust pipe in the left, instead of having it in the center, like the petrol Nano.

Powering the Tata Nano Diesel would be an 800 cc oil burner that has a max power output of 40PS. The engine is currently the smallest diesel engine in the world to have a turbocharger. The engine’s turbocharger comes from Honeywell and it is being said that the motor could have an ARAI certified fuel efficiency figure of around 40kmpl!

With a competitive selling price and a diesel engine that could stretch a litre of stickier fuel to almost 40kmpl, the Nano can easily be said to be the next big thing in the world of affordable motoring. The Tata Nano diesel could be unveiled at the upcoming 2014 Delhi Auto Expo.

  1. if there is two wheel size…i will ask my friend to avoid as it is not wise to take a long drive during nights and unknown place and tyre gets punctured[as we don’t know where is the next valconise – front wheel small and the back wheel bigger in size…we can’t run for a long duration as it will spoil the vehicle balance]
As some like me can’t afford to hold a car for City drive and a car for long journey
