Johammer J Electric Motorcycle

Johammer Electric Motorcycles unveiled

Austrian brand Johammer doesn’t seem a very familiar name and neither does the design of their recently unveiled electric motorcycles.

First revealed at the Linz Motorcycle Show in February this year, Johammer is planning to put two versions of the motorcycle i.e. the J1 150 and the J1 200 on the production line and has already announced prices of these two electric bikes.

Johammer Electric Motor

Talking of specifications, the Johammer electric motorcycles feature an air cooled brushless 11kW AC motor with a single speed transmission. And though these motorcycles have been described as a “scared looking snail”, they are pretty quick with the motor on these motorcycles being electronically restricted to 120 kph.

The batteries have been developed in-house with the J1 150 and the J1 200 having a range of 150 and 200 kms respectively on a single charge. Johammer claims that the J1 200 would be the first all-electric motorcycle to have a range of over 200 kms on a single charge. Also the battery packs are claimed to have a charge hold of either 4 years or 2,00,000 kms (Impressive!).

Held together by an aluminum frame, the Johammer electric motorcycle features a hub centre steering and suspension unlike conventional setups. Similar to autoscoots, the J1is void of any foot controls with the handlebar mounted accelerator and brake levers.

The instrumentation on these bikes seems to have come out straight from a sci-fi movie. The speedo and battery charge indicators are integrated into the rear view mirrors. Repair/ replacement costs of these hi-tech mirrors during a crash or a tip-over is a different story though.

On the concluding part, riding the world’s fastest snail isn’t a cheap proposition. The Johammer J1 150 with a 8.3 kWh battery would costs US$ 31,860 while the Johammer J1 200 with a 12.7 kWh module is priced at US$ 34,630.

We’re eager to see the buyers list of these motorcycles!
