The new Tata Zest compact sedan features India’s first indigenous turbo-charged gasoline engine. Honeywell Turbo Technologies have partnered with Tata Motors to develop the new Tata Revotron 1.2T engine recently launched in the 2014 Tata Zest, which delivers best-in-class power and torque and a first-in-segment multi-drive mode.

The Revotron 1.2T features Honeywell’s second generation petrol turbo technology, which incorporates the latest advances in aerodynamics and bearing systems, and delivers significantly improved fuel economy and driving performance in a 30 percent smaller space. It also lowers the overall system complexity and cost. Global expertise and unique local capabilities has been applied by Honeywell’s engineering teams in Pune and Bangalore.

“We are proud to have met the challenge and helped Tata successfully launch its new petrol engine in the exciting new Zest,” said Milind Godbole, managing director, Honeywell Turbo Technologies, India. “Honeywell has a strong presence in India and embraces its opportunity to contribute to the accelerating ‘Made in India’ campaign which is significant for moving its auto industry forward as a global player.”

Honeywell believes that petrol applications will likely drive the rapid adoption of performance enhancing turbocharger technologies in India, just as they are in Europe given that both markets already have very strong turbo diesel penetration above 50 percent.
