HMSI to invest Rs 1000 crore for third manufacturing plant in Karnataka

Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India already has two manufacturing units in India, the first situated at Manesar in Haryana and the second at Tapukara in Rajasthan. HMSI has now decided to invest a sum of Rs 1000 crore to set up its third manufacturing plant which will be situated in Kolar, Karnataka.

With an investment of Rs 1000 crore, the new plant will be spread across 350,000 sq meters and operations are likely to commence by early 2013. The plant is expected to boast of a production capacity of 1.2 million units per annum. The foundation stone for the new plant was laid by Mr Keita Muramatsu, President and CEO of HMSI.

Mr Keita said that this third set up would help in escalating the output and will result in lesser waiting periods. Owing to the high demand for two-wheelers, the current waiting period of 3 months has to be slashed down to 15-30 days, he added.
