It is no secret that the new Ford EcoSport compact crossover has garnered plenty of rave reviews from auto hacks and car buyers alike. The EcoSport has been put on sale in India at a price point that targets not just compact SUV buyers but also those who are in the market for premium hatchbacks and entry level sedans.
Ford India has now told us that their new offering has managed to garner 30000 bookings in just 17 days since its launch! This is quite a mean feat, considering that Ford India sold just 75,500 cars during last fiscal.
The booking amount for the car is INR 50000 and we are already hearing of waiting periods of as high as three months.
Talking about the new car’s performance, Joginder Singh, president and managing director, Ford India said, “We had high expectations of the Ford EcoSport and the unabated response post the launch has been truly gratifying. Consumers are appreciating the value-for-money proposition that we are offering in the EcoSport’s compelling and smart package. We thank our customers for their overwhelming response and appreciate their patience. The Ford India team is working closely with the suppliers at our Chennai facility to enhance output of the Ecosport to reduce the waiting period and to meet the high demand.”
Joginder Singh added, “We are happy to see consumers spending time in our showrooms, wanting to know more about our vehicles and acknowledging the value proposition we have been always offering on our other nameplates also – Ford Figo, Ford Classic, Ford Fiesta and the Ford Endeavour.”
The buyers of the Ford EcoSport get as many as three engine variants to choose from-
- The entry level engine variant of EcoSport is powered by the same 1.5 litre normally aspirated petrol motor that powers the new Fiesta sedan. The 1.5 litres petrol engine can be ordered with either a 5 speed manual transmission or a 6 speed auto’ transmission.
- The diesel engine variant, and the one which is responsible for bringing all those sales volumes, is powered by the Fiesta’s 1.5 litre turbocharged diesel engine.
- The second petrol engine variant is powered by the much hyped Ford EcoBoost 1.0 litre turbo petrol engine. No auto box for the EcoBoost.
