First Unit of the All-new Mahindra Thar Delivered to the Auction Winner

Yesterday, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd handed over the All-New Thar #1 to Mr. Aakash Minda, winner of the online auction for the very first All-New Thar. Mr. Minda, CEO of Minda Corporation placed a winning bid of Rs. 1.11 crore in the auction outdoing almost 5,500 bidders from over 500 locations across India. Mr. Minda opted for the fully loaded LX Petrol Automatic Transmission Convertible variant of the All-New Thar and chose Mystic Copper from a range of six eye-catching shades.

What’s special about the #1 Thar?

The All-New Thar #1 comes emblazoned with the ‘Thar #1’ badge, distinguishing the owner as the very first one. Other exclusive and distinguishing features on this All-New Thar #1 includes customized badging on the vehicle flaunting the owner’s initials “A.M” and serial number ‘1’ on the decorative plate of the dashboard and leatherette seats. Mahindra held the online auction for the All-New Thar #1 to raise funds for COVID-19 relief efforts. The winning bidder had the option to choose from three non-profit organisations, to donate the proceeds of the auction, and he opted for the Swades Foundation, with Mahindra matching the winning bid to bring the total donation amount to Rs. 2.22 crore.

2020 All-new Mahindra Thar Overview

Compared to the older model, the new Thar has been tweaked to appeal to a new set of buyers and also those who liked what it offered but sat on the fence as it wasn’t a practical vehicle for everybody. Mahindra has addressed that and is offering the new Thar in two variants – AX and LX. The former will be presented to the hardcore fan and will offer 16″ steel wheels with a soft top and a six-seater configuration (sideways placed rear seats), manual AC and power steering and windows, while a hardtop and front-facing rear seats can be ticked through an option pack. On the other hand, the LX comes fitted with all the bells and whistles like LED DRLs and fog lamps, eight-way adjustable driver’s seat, tyre pressure monitoring system, auto AC, 7.0-inch touchscreen and 18″ alloy wheels.

The new Thar gets an updated version of the 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine which cranks out 130hp, 300Nm and is available with a 6-speed manual gearbox and an optional, Aisin-sourced, 6-speed torque converter. If you like petrol engines, the 2.0-litre mStallion motor is also on offer. It cranks out 150hp of power and 300 Nm (MT), 320Nm (AT) of torque. Transmission options include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic gearbox.
