Toyota Kirloskar Motors, the Indian subsidiary of Toyota Motor Corporation, had showcased the Innova Crysta at the 2016 Auto Expo held in February this year. The highly anticipated model from the Japanese automotive manufacturer will replace the outgoing Innova that has been around for more than a decade now. Toyota’s Bidadi plant, situated in Karntaka, recently saw the last unit of the current generation Innova roll off the production line bringing an end to an era of a successful MPV.

The Innova was launched in the year 2005 and was the successor to another popular model from Toyota, namely the Qualis. The outgoing model became an instant among private buyers as well as commercial taxi owners and went on to become one of the best sellers in the segment, a crown it has held on to since. This Innova will now make way for the upcoming Innova, christened as the Innova Crysta.

This news puts an end to reports which suggested that the current generation Innova would be sold alongside the Innova Crysta. The outgoing model always remained a hit among its buyers, with sales charts touching the monthly mark of 5,000 units, a feat which no other vehicle in the segment could achieve. Spy images reveal the last unit of the Innova decorated with balloons and ribbons for the occasion with factory workers surrounding the last of its type.

Powering the Innova Crysta globally is a 2.4 litre as well as a 2.8 litre diesel engine that replaces the conventional 2.5 litre diesel engine. Reports suggest that only the 2.4 litre variant will make it to the Indian shores while Toyota will also be working on a sub 2.0 litre engine for specific markets such as Delhi which currently face the diesel ban. The conventional gearbox is replaced with an all new 6 speed manual transmission while the AMT gearbox is expected to arrive as an optional feature.

Bookings for the Toyota Innova Crysta have already begun with an amount of Rs. 50,000 and dealers are reportedly promising a delivery date of May 2016. The aforementioned features will seem to justify the significant price rise that is expected to take place when Toyota announces the prices of the Innova Crysta.
