Ducati unveils its 195bhp Superquadro engine for the 1199 Panigale: With Video

The Ducati 1199 Panigale is going to be the most exciting thing to happen to the world of superbikes in 2011. A few weeks back we brought to you some details about the new range topping SBK from Ducati which will try and take the fight to the segment leader S1000RR. Enabling this new Ducati to challenge the formidable machine would be an all new 1200cc Superquadro V twin – the most advanced and the most powerful in the history of the bike manufacturer.

The new engine has been christened Superquadro (Italian for super square), and will be filled tight with technology. With its supersquare construction with bore exceeding the stroke, one can expect the new Ducati to rev more crazily than any Ducati has done ever. The compact construction mill will produce 20bhp more than the 1198 engine, and coupled with the lightweight construction of the new bike will set a new benchmark for power to weight ratio in the superbike segment.

Ducati have made the 1199 Panigale with a vision to leave everything that’s not good enough behind and create a machine to redefine the class. Traditional Ducati elements like Trellis frame, single sided swing arm and many other features related strongly with Ducati’s history, heritage and brand identity have been shown the bin to make sure they don’t come in Panigale’s way to attain excellence.

With its new engine, lightweight construction and ultra modern tech, do you think the new Ducati 1199 Panigale would be able to displace the S1000RR from the emperor’s throne? Do let us know your views. Here we have a video about the new engine, followed by images of the 1199 Panigale for you
