We reported in detail when China got the long wheelbase variant of the updated E Class recently. Now, it has emerged that in a similar fashion, Mercedes is preparing a long wheelbase variant of its new C Class for the Chinese car market.

Daimler AG board member Thomas Weber recently said that Mercedes is in the process of coming up with plants in Germany, United States, China and South Africa to build the next generation C-Class using a modular production system that will enable the manufacturer to manufacture market-specific versions of the new C.

In the past we built cars, today we develop generations of models. There will be a long-wheelbase version for the specific needs of Chinese clients. This car will be built in China, exclusively for that market.”, he said. He further added that Daimler plans to commence the production of the new C across four continents in six months.

The new gen Mercedes C Class is built on a modular architecture that will be shared with the next generation E Class in future.
