Chevrolet Sail U-VA special edition

We reported in detail when Chevrolet India recently launched the Chevrolet Sail Sedan Limited Edition recently. CLICK HERE to read our earlier report. Now, the car maker has introduced a similar special variant of the Chevrolet Sail U-VA hatchback. Akin to the limited edition variant of the sedan sibling, the Chevrolet Sail U-VA Limited Edition gets minor updates and additional accessories such as-  body decals, limited edition badging, seat covers, pillows, illuminated sill plates, a chrome garnish for the bootlid, roof rails and integrated trafficators on the ORVMs. The Chevrolet Sail U-VA Limited Edition prices start at INR 4.47 lakhs (ex-Showroom, Thane) and the car goes on sale with immediate effect.

Mechanically, the Sail U-VA limited edition is same as the regular models, which means that powering the petrol variant is a 1.2 litre, four cylinder, normally aspirated engine that has a max power of 86PS at 6000 RPM and peak torque of 113 Nm at 5000 RPM. The diesel variants are powered by a 1.3-liter four-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine that has a max power of 78 PS at 4,000 rpm and peak torque of 205 Nm at 1,750 rpm. Both the motors are coupled with a five speed manual gearbox. The petrol engine variant has an ARAI certified fuel mileage of 18.2 km/l, whereas the diesel variants boast of a fuel efficiency figure of 22.1 km/l.

Launched early last year, the Sail UV-A has never managed to set sales charts on fire. Call it the effect of ultra competitive rivals such as the Maruti Swift and the Hyundai i20 or Sail U-VA’s inability to come across as a lucrative proposition, despite the attractive price tag, the Sail UV-A hatchback has never managed to capture the imagination of the car buying lot.

Quite obviously, the new special variant of the slow selling hatchback has been introduced to attract some more prospective hatchback buyers to Chevrolet India showroom. However, it would be rather interesting to see if the Sail UV-A Limited Edition, equipped with some minor updates, would be able to enhance the hatchback’s sales performance.
