Display Key

A trend that has started capturing all BMW cars, the Display key offers owners to control a number of things, including the locking/unlocking of doors or even presetting the climate control system to a particular temperature. Moreover, the fourth generation SUV also comes with a keyless entry function, which unlocks all doors and the split tailgate if the key is within a 1.5-metre radius of the car.

The Cockpit

All BMWs have developed a reputation of being a drivers car, the X5 is no exception. The driver seat can be adjusted, electronically of course, in a multitude of different ways to find the perfect driving position. The infotainment screen has been angled towards the driver as well, while the instrument console, all digital, is aggressively styled and offers the driver loads of information. The crystal covered gear knob further enhances the element of drama, adding more to the driving experience. Moreover, the car also offers more driver aids like the heads-up display, 3-D Navigation and some more.

Driver Assists

With the massive dimensions of the SUV, most of us can agree that parking in and out of tight spaces would definitely be a bit problematic. However, BMW has done their best to make this process a bit more easy for you. The X5 comes with Parking Assistant Plus with Surround View Camera which takes over acceleration, braking as well as steering. Also on offer, along with this assistant is a new reversing assistant, which would keep a record of the last 50 metres travelled by the car, and trace it back exactly the same way with no steering inputs from the driver.

Laser Light Technology

Illuminating the road ahead is of grave importance, especially when there are chances of you going to the middle of nowhere in your big, bold SUV. The brand new X5 takes care of it by using their Laser Light technology. With their trademark DRLs integrated rather well in the assembly, BMW also has added blue coloured x-shaped elements for a neat look. This complex system of lights is capable of offering the best visibility and can also change its intensity to not make the oncoming traffic go blind.

The Engines

Offered with two very exciting 6-pot motors, the BMW X5 has enough juice to go rather fast for a car of that size. The 30d motor on offer is a 3.0-litre 6-cylinder diesel engine which pushes out 265 Hp at 4,000 rpm and a peak torque 620 Nm of torque between 1,500 – 2,500 rpm. The other engine, the 40i motor, with a displacement of 3-litres & using six-cylinders, delivers 340 HP and 450 Nm of torque. Both these motors come paired with an 8-speed automatic gearbox, and would definitely be a joy to drive. Moreover, with power going to all 4 wheels, one can expect to reach triple-digit speeds very quick.
