BMW and MINI at Auto Expo 2014: i8, New M6 Gran Coupe and New X5 to be the Highlights

BMW India has revealed it official exhibit plans for the 2014 Auto Expo, to be held at India Expo Mart in Greater Noida. The Bavasrian brand will participate in Auto Expo 2014 with BMW as well as the MINI brand at Hall No. 15 at the Expo venue. BMW and MINI at Auto Expo 2014 will have the letters ‘i’, ‘M’ and ‘X’ spearheading their product exhibit, along with the John Cooper Works. BMW India will present the BMW i8, the all-new BMW M6 Gran Coupe and the all-new BMW X5 to India at the 2014 Expo.

In addition to the three products mentioned above, BMW India will launch the all-new BMW 3 Series Gran Turismo at the Auto Expo 2014.

BMW i8

BMW i8 Auto Expo 2014

The main highlight at the BMW Pavilion in Auto expo 2014 will be the introduction of BMW i series of cars in India. BMW i stands for visionary electric cars and mobility services, inspiring design and a new understanding of premium that is strongly defined by sustainability.
The i8

The BMW i8 is powered by a 1.5 liter twin turbo three-cylinder engine with an exceptional power output of 231 HP and peak torque rated at 320 Nm. Backing up the petrol engine will be an electrical motor which gives the car an extra 131 HP and 320 Nm of torque. The petrol motor in combination with the electric motor, produces a maximum output of 362 HP and 570 Nm of torque.

The new hybrid supercar is expected to be priced at INR 1.5 crore. While car will be launched for the Inidan market this year, less than 10 units are allocated for the Indian market. Expect the lot to get sold out as soon as its opened for bookings.

BMW M6 Gran Coupe

The performance version of the 6 series Gran Coupe, the M6 has a 560bhp, 4.4-liter turbocharged V-8 powering it. There is also 680 nm of torque from a really low 1500 rpm, thanks to the twin-turbos. The car can do a 0-100 km/h sprint in a mere 4.1 seconds which is even lesser than the lighter M5, and as quick as the smaller M6 Coupe.

Top speed is limited to 250 km/h, though it can be raised to 305 km/h with the M Driver’s package.

BMW New X5

Claimed to be more aerodynamically efficient, and about 100 kg lighter than its predecessor, the new 2014 X5 will be showcased at the 2014 Auto Expo and will be launched in the Indian market subsequently. Internationally, the engine options include a 3.0-liter, single-turbo inline-six engine with 300bhp. Then there is the 4.4-liter twin-turbo V-8 with 445bhp and close to 700 nm of torque.

The X5 is supposed to one of the finest handling SUVs in the world. We were totally mind blown by the previous version. Hope this one carries forth the tremendous legacy successfully

3 series GT

BMW’s 3 GT is a roomier version of normal 3 series sedan. It’s got more space, allows for easy ingress and egress and looks like a larger car in general.

A bit more expensive and more comfortable than the 3-series sedan, the GT will be powered by the same engines and will cost a bit more than the sedan version upon its launch.

MINI John Cooper Works

In addition to the aforementioned cars, the BMW Pavilion will also display the BMW 1 Series, the BMW 3 Series, the BMW 5 Series, the BMW X1, the BMWX3, the BMW Z4 and the BMW 7 Series.

MINI India will launch the MINI John Cooper Works in India with an exclusive range of John Cooper Works Accessories. The MINI pavilion will also display MINI Cooper S, the MINI Cooper Convertible, the MINI Cooper S Countryman and the MINI Cooper D Countryman.

Mr. Philipp von Sahr, President, BMW Group India will address the press briefings for BMW and MINI and will share the market strategy in India for the year 2014.
