As we reported a few weeks back, BMW has been looking at launching the petrol powered 5 series in India for some time now, owing to the diesel ban prevailing in the NCR region. The German carmaker has now officially launched the BMW 520i, the BMW 5 Series powered by a two-litre, four cylinder engine. BMW India has priced the 520i at INR 54, 00, 000 ex-showroom across the country.
The introduction of the petrol variant makes the 5 series available in both petrol and diesel variants. Imported as a CBU the new BMW 520i has been introduced in the ‘Luxury Line’ trim. The Luxury Line trim features chrome at the front and rear including BMW kidney grille, side window frames and tailpipe trim, along with ‘Luxury’ badge on front side panel and car key.
The two liter petrol powering the new 5 series delivers a power output of 184 hp and a maximum torque of 270 Nm at 1,250 – 4,500 rpm. The official 0-100km/h acceleration timing for the car is 7.9 seconds with a top speed of 233 km/hr. The engine is mated to the familiar eight-speed Steptronic automatic transmission with Cruise Control, known for its smooth, seamless gearshifts.
BMW EfficientDynamics tech on the BMW 520i comprises Lightweight Construction, Auto Start-Stop, ECO PRO mode, Brake-Energy Regeneration and 50:50 weight distribution among others. The BMW ConnectedDrive features multifunction instrument display, the next generation of BMW iDrive with a 25.9 cm color display. The car also comes equipped with sat-nav, Harman Kardon Surround Sound System, BMW Apps, Park Distance Control, Rear View Camera and Connectivity through Bluetooth / USB devices.
The other engine variants in the 5 Series portfolio include two diesel engines 520d and 530d which are locally produced in Chennai. The petrol powered machine, as mentioned before is available only as CBU (Completely built-up) unit.
The new BMW 520i will be available in Alpine White as non-metallic paintwork. Black Sapphire and Imperial Blue Brilliant Effect are the available metallic paintworks.
Interior trim is Fine-wood trim Fineline Anthracite with highlight trim finisher in Chrome Pearl Grey. Upholstery is available in fine Dakota leather with a variety of colour combinations.
