The Best On Four Wheels At The Auto Expo 2018 – Cars

After bikes and SUVs, it’s time to turn our attention towards some shiny new cars which were displayed at the Auto Expo 2018. Tata Motors created the biggest waves at the Expo with their 45X concept which will later come out as a premium hatchback in production form to challenge the likes of the Baleno and the i20. The 2018 Hyundai i20 was revealed with minor updates, prices for the all-new Swift were announced and the Toyota Yaris finally showed up in the ring to fight against the Honda City and the Hyundai Verna. There were many more and here’s a list of all the top metal on four wheels which was on display at the Expo.

Tata 45X

A vehicle which will be manufactured at Tata’s Sanand facility, a production version of the Tata 45X will arrive in early 2019 in a premium hatchback form.

Showcased inside a glass enclosure, the 45X concept hatch looked striking, to say the least. What happens inside the cabin of the concept car remained a mystery, although, we can definitely expect class-leading space and tons of features inside. Powering the production car could be the new 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol motor which also powers the Nexon. Diesel variants could either get the 1.5-litre diesel from the compact SUV or the smaller mill which powers the Tiago, albeit, in a higher state of tune.

Toyota Yaris

Challenging the dominance of the Honda City, the Ciaz and the Verna, the Toyota Yaris will be launched in India in April 2018. The car will be introduced with a 1.5-litre petrol motor, mated either to a 5-speed manual or a CVT.

A sedan which boasts of class-leading space in some south-east Asian markets where it is already on sale, the Toyota Yaris is expected to be priced aggressively to take on the might of its established rivals. Do not miss the roof mounted AC vents.

Tata Tiago / Tigor JTP Performance

An offspring of the alliance between Tata Motors and Jayem Automotives Pvt. Ltd, these two go-fast Tata’s are designed with the young, sporty customers in mind.

While Tata did not share any technical details, we expect the cars to be powered by a 1.5-litre diesel motor and 1.2-turbocharged petrol, both borrowed from the Nexon. The Tiago & Tigor JTP Performance will offer a lot of thrills for a lot less, for those who seek them.

All-new Honda Amaze

With a bold new face which some said would’ve looked just fine on an SUV, the all-new Honda Amaze made its global debut at the Auto Expo 2018.

To take on the might of the all-new Dzire, with revised styling all around, the new Honda Amaze gets a refreshed cabin and could be launched closer to the festive season this year. Built on an all-new platform, the Amaze remains a sub 4-metre car and could be powered by the existing set of petrol and diesel motors.

2018 Hyundai Elite i20

A refreshed car which incorporates subtle changes in the styling, the 2018 Hyundai Elite i20 made its debut at the Auto Expo 2018.

Changes have been made to the fascia and the illumination pattern of the rear LED tail lights. The alloy wheel pattern is new, there’s a new, bigger infotainment system inside and rear AC vents. Watch the video to know about all that has changed.

New 2018 BMW M5

For the first time ever, an ‘M’ sedan gets all-wheel drive. But the fun part is, it lets you choose whether you’d like the power to be distributed between the four wheels or let it all be concentrated towards the back. Priced at INR 1.43 Crore, this car is all about the performance which comes in the form of a 4.4 Litre M TwinPower Turbo 8-cylinder petrol engine which delivers 600 HP and 750 Nm of peak torque through an 8-speed Steptronic auto box.

Features include BMW Gesture Control which recognizes pre-defined hand movements to control various functions, the Parking Assistant, wireless charging for your smartphone, auto start-stop function and the fancy BMW Display Key with an integrated touchscreen. Oh and a 600W Harman Kardon system.

DC TCA

What is arguably India’s first serious Sportscar, the DC TCA was revealed at the Auto Expo 2018. The DC stand was so loud though, we could barely hear ourselves while shooting the car. So you may choose to hit the mute button and we’ll tell you about the details here.

The TCA (Titanium, Carbon, Aluminium) which, DC says, are the key substrates of the car’s composition, is heavily inspired by a certain Pagani and the La Ferrari. It is powered by a 3.8-litre V6 motor which is good for 320 HP, but has been paired with a not so complicated 6-speed automatic gearbox. Details about where the motor has been sourced from is a secret and so are the top speed and acceleration figures. Only 299 will be made and it can yours for INR 45 lakh (approximately).

All-new Honda Civic

To arrive in the Indian market during FY2018-19, the 10th generation of the Honda Civic sedan will be introduced in both petrol and diesel engine options in India. The 10th Generation Honda Civic represents one of the most comprehensive and ambitious new-model development ever undertaken by Honda.

The Honda Civic is offered in 170 markets worldwide. Visually, the new Honda Civic will feature an athletic stance and advanced aerodynamics. The interior will feature high-quality materials and design lines that offer a sporty and premium sense including a spacious cabin.
