Bajaj Auto will launch their new offering on 1 February. At a conference earlier this month, the officials at Bajaj Auto announced that the company will launch a new brand of commuters in January. Dubbed as ‘X’ the brand will sit between the Discover and Pulsar series.

Recently we reported about an all new (odd-looking) Bajaj bike being spotted during a road test. The bike was camouflaged and sported parts from other Bajaj bikes as decoy. The bike was masked with a Pulsar head unit; new flatter single tube handlebar borrowed from the Discover series and a few bits from the Avenger clan like the rear-view mirrors, chunky single piece seat, grab-rails and a wide rear tyre.

While all of that is borrowed, the fairly-large fuel tank is new. The bike also gets a new upswept exhaust and nitrox assisted, multi-rated rear shock units. The bike will also get a new branding and a new demeanour. The company internally calls the new model as ‘Executive-Mature’ and aims to target buyers who prefer a balance between performance and economy and don’t fancy a sporty feel. The bike will roll out with a reworked 150cc engine mated to a 5-speed transmission,: the combination will spout power around 13-15 bhp and 12-14 Nm of torque. The bike will be priced aggressively to attract a wider audience.

The company has planned to skip the 2016 Auto Expo, but it still is keeping us engrossed with their surprise conferences and events. We had expected that the 400cc offerings might finally get launched at the Delhi Expo, but no luck there. Anyway, it is about time to see what Bajaj Auto pulls out of their hat on 1 Feb, will it be a segment creator or just another bunny. To find out, stay tuned for more updates from the event.
