Recently we reported that Jeep India showcased their SUVs at a private event. The Jeep Wrangler and the Grand Cherokee SRT were unveiled for exclusive buyers. Prior to this event the brand had launched a curtain raiser website for India that provided a glimpse into their product line-up for the country.
The iconic SUV brand is set to officially step onto Indian soil on 3rd of February 2016 at the 2016 Auto Expo. The Jeep brand will be introduced at the mega event by Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) India. The SUV maker will showcase the rugged Jeep Wrangler Unlimited and the powerful Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT.
The Jeep Wrangler Unlimited will roll out in petrol and diesel version. The petrol variant will draw power from a 3.6-Liter V6 24-Valve VVT engine that will make 275 bhp of max power and peak torque of 359 Nm. The diesel variant will be powered by a 2.8-litre turbocharged engine which generated 197 bhp and 451 Nm of torque. The power will be pushed to the wheels by a 5-speed automatic gearbox.
The Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT will roll out with a SRT 6.4-litre HEMI V8 engine. The power plant on this big guy does 475 bhp and a max torque of 644 Nm. The power will spin the wheels with the help of an 8-speed automatic gearbox.
Initially the SUVs will be brought to India through the CBU route, later another Jeep offering will roll out from the Fiat’s Ranjangaon plant. In the Indian market the Jeep SUVs will go head on with Volvo XC90, Audi Q7, Porsche Cayenne and BMW X5M. The Jeep Wrangler Unlimited and the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT will carry pricetags starting around INR 30lakh and INR 85lakh respectively and will sell through exclusive FIAT dealerships.
