Audi India has brought its Audi Sportscar Experience which allows participants to drive on a racetrack and learn vital driving tips from its experienced trainers out of BIC Delhi. Named Audi City Experience, the more accessible version of the driver training programme brings the Sportscar Experience to 14 cities of India starting with Mumbai. We were a part of the first leg of the event, held at Pawan Hans at Juhu, Mumbai.
The event which allows participants to experience the thrill of modern Audi sports cars in a safe, controlled environment was a three day affair for its Mumbai leg. For the rest of the cities, the event will be held for two days over weekends. Apart from enthralling the participants with speed, the event also focuses on imparting good driving techniques in pursuit of road safety.
A training course with acceleration, brake, cornering and slalom sections was designed to acquaint the participating drivers with the basic, but vital aspects of driving. A fleet of some of the most desirable Audi cars was brought to the venue along with a team of seasoned driving trainers from India and abroad. Participants were first trained the very basics of correct driving, which include the correct palm and elbow position, right seating posture and a few other practices for a smooth, uninterrupted hand movement around the wheel. They were then introduced to various drive modes on Audi cars along with features such as ESP and their resultant affect on the car’s behavior.
Later, the participants were allowed to drive around the course. Offered the wheel of the sporty Audi TT and a choice between the S4 and the RS5, the participants honed their skills at various techniques such as late braking, slalom handling and smooth steering. A searing hot lap with Audi’s race drivers wrapped up the driving experience, invariably plastering a wide grin on the participants’ faces as they step out of the car.
Audi’s team of driving instructors for the event comprises Aditya Patel, Audi’s young racing prodigy Mark Allison, the veteran racer and instructor with more than 30 years of racing experience, Prithveen Rajan and Rohitaaz Kumar, both former national rallying champions. In future legs of the event, participants may get the privilege of getting trained by Karun Chandhok, who is a guest trainer for the Audi City Experience.
