What should be the Audi A3 sedan price in India?

Having already sent mailers regarding the bookings and launch date of the A3 sedan, Audi India is gearing itself up for the launch of its new entry level luxury sedan in our rapidly growing car market.

Now, the Indian car market has always been price sensitive and quite obviously, pricing plays an all-important role in the success of a car model here in India. Currently, the cheapest Audi model one can buy in India is the Q3 petrol with a manual gearbox. Unlike the other two German competitors- BMW and Mercedes, Audi has so far refrained from launching a hatchback in India and positioning it as an entry level model.

However, by the month of July, Audi India will have the A3 sedan in its product portfolio. The A3 sedan has a wheelbase of 2.64m and measures 4.46m in length, which is only a little more than that of a Toyota Corolla! Even the A3’s boot space, at 425 litres, is 50 litres lesser than that of the popular Japanese entry-D segment sedan. In India, the A3 is likely to come with a 2.0 litre TDI motor that churns out 150bhp and a peak torque figure of 320Nm. Again, this is basically the same VW group motor that powers a variety of cars in India (of course in different state of tunes), ranging from the Skoda Octavia to many large cars in Audi’s own product portfolio. Now, given the fact that the A3 sedan, which would come to us via CKD route, is not exactly a big sedan and would not come to us with an all-new engine, we would want you to put a price tag on Audi’s upcoming model. Tell us, how much are you willing to pay for the upcoming car? Will you be fine with paying a premium for the Audi badge? Or the A4-like exterior would justify a high price tag for the car?
