42,300 Figo and Figo Aspire vehicles recalled as their airbags might not get deployed when needed

new 2015 Ford Figo India review (7)

Its pressing times for Ford India, as following a 50% cut in production of the new Figo series due to poor demand, they’ve now issued a recall for all the Figo and Figo Aspire models sold thus far. The cause of the recall is to fix a software glitch in the Restraint Control Module (RCM) of the vehicles that could prevent the airbags from getting deployed when needed. It is to be noted though, that both the Figo and Figo Aspire models offer the option of having as many as six airbags – a segment first. Here’s the official statement from Ford India:

“Ford India is proactively issuing a voluntary safety recall for approximately 42,300 Figo and Figo Aspire vehicles, built at the Sanand plant since launch until April 12, 2016, to correct a software issue with the Restraint Control Module (RCM).

The affected vehicles may contain a software error, which could result in the airbags not deploying in certain collisions in which they are intended to deploy. Figo and Figo Aspire customers will have a software upgrade carried out free of charge through their Ford dealership.

A corrective action on all Figo and Figo Aspire vehicles, presently at Ford dealerships, has been undertaken, leading to a resumption of deliveries to customers. Ford remains committed to delivering world-class quality vehicles to our customers, and this voluntary safety recall is part of that commitment.”
