If you ask Bentley, they’ll also tell you that the new Bentayga is the most luxurious of its kind as well. That is, until the Rolls-Royce Cullinan comes along next year. Well, the Bentayga has been launched in India, and at INR 3.85 Crores (ex-showroom Delhi), it is also the most expensive SUV to be sold in India, costing even more than the Range Rover Vogue Autobiography, which starts at INR 2.68 Crores. And that’s just before all the options go on, which includes an optional Mulliner Tourbillon clock by Breitling, made exclusively for the Bentayga, which costs £150,000; or INR 1.53 Crores!
So there you have it. As of today , the new Bentley Bentayga is indeed the creme-de-la-creme of utility vehicles. So what makes it so special? Well, one of its more modest claim is that it shares its underpinnings with the new Audi Q7, and also..err..the new A4. For starters, there’s the performance – with 600 bhp and 900 Nm of torque from its all-new twin-turbocharged 6.0-litre W12 petrol engine, the Bentayga darts from 0-100 km/h in just 4.1 seconds and a on to top speed of 301 km/h; those statistics resoundingly ticking off the first two claims in this article’s title.
Then there’s the interior, which is available in both five- and four-seat configurations. Trimmed with handcrafted wood and leather throughout, the Bentayga’s cabin is put together with 15 hand-selected veneers, while polished and handcrafted metal elements, knurled in places, adorn the dashboard, centre console and doors. The handcrafted font seats, upholstered with contrast stitched leather, are 22-way adjustment, while also featuring a six-programme massage system, seat heating and ventilation.
In four-seat configuration, the two individual rear seats adjust in 18 different ways and include massage and ventilation functions as well as footrests. The bull hides in the Bentayga’s cabin are individually selected by leather specialists, all of which are sourced from cool European climates, naturally tanned and never over-printed. Customers have the choice of 15 colours, in three duo-tone and one single mono-tone colour split. There are also 15 carpet options, along with seven different hand-crafted veneers.
If that’s not enough, there’s a full-length panoramic sunroof with acoustic interlays. a hands-free tail gate that reveals the optional folding “event seat” in the boot, an all-new, 8″ touch screen infotainment system, and the Bentley Entertainment Tablet – a removable 10.2″ Android device with 4G, WiFi and Bluetooth for high-speed on-board connectivity. And everything be better put together, because when 1,950 watts of Bentley Premium Audio by Niam break in from those 18 speakers into the eerily soundproof cabin, all hell will break loose inside your ears.
What about style then? Like every new and shiny Bentley on sale out there, the Bentayga’s large matrix grille up front is flanked by four “floating” all-LED headlamps. Being a SUV however, the Bentayga comes with an integrated, front skid plates, while the highlight of the rear has to be the ‘B’-shaped illumination graphic that affords the Bentayga with its own distinctive night-time signature. In profile, the high riding stance is accentuated with the 22-inch alloy wheels and distinctive rear haunch.
