Ford India has collectively issued a recall of 20,752 units of the Ecosport, which include 19,441 units of the top-end Titanium variant (both petrol and diesel), manufactured between January 2013 and September 2014 to rectify a problem in seat belt sensors that decide when to deploy the side airbags. Apart from that 2,715 units of the petrol variant will be inspected for complaints of corrosion in the fuel line, including 1,404 that need fixing of both problems.

Ford is writing to customers and asking them to contact their local dealer so that the necessary rework can be carried out free of cost. This would be the second recall of the EcoSport, after Ford had recalled around 1,000 diesel EcoSports a few days after its launch to relocate and remount the module of the glow plug in the engine architecture.

“The safety of our customers is always top priority at Ford. For their peace of mind, we have initiated a Field Service Action to correct product concerns on 20,752 Ford EcoSport vehicles in India. This is a proactive, voluntary recall action to ensure customers’ safety and satisfaction. Ford India will inspect EcoSport variants, made at the company’s Chennai plant between Jan. 2013 and Sept. 2014, for concerns of fuel and vapour line corrosion in the long-term. The company will also check the vehicles for reorienting wiring harness related to the correct deployment of side airbags.”
