Yamaha has announced the arrival of the 2016 FJR1300A and FJR1300ES supersport touring motorcycles. Apart from several additional features, the new 2016 FJR1300A and FJR1300ES benefits from a six-speed gearbox instead of a five-speed unit that performed the task till now. The new transmission gets a revised ratios, providing evenly spaced gearing for sporty riding and a tall 6th gear which is aimed to deliver relaxed highway riding. The transmission gears are also said to have been modified to offer smoother, quieter running.

Both motorcycles will continue to draw power from the same liquid-cooled, 1,298cc, in-line, four-cylinder engine that powered the outgoing versions. The motorcycles mounts on an aluminum Deltabox frame. Apart from the six-speed transmission, the 2016 FJR1300A and 2016 FJR1300ES will feature an Assist & Slipper Clutch, updated instrumentation, completely redesigned “twin-eye” headlight and combination of taillight/turn signal assemblies featuring all-LED lighting.

Apart from the aforementioned features, the FJR1300ES also receives front LED cornering lights that are aimed to deliver successive automatic illumination as the cornering lean deepens, thus providing a wider area of forward illumination in the direction of the turn. The system functions via high-speed computation of the banking angle detected by the Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU), and the resulting signal is transmitted to the Cornering Light Control Unit. Regardless of whether the headlight is in low- or high-beam, even a slight banking angle activates the innermost of the three cornering lights on the turning side and, as the banking angle deepens, the middle and outside lights come ON in succession.
