Rumour mills all around the world have been working overtime ever since it emerged that German performance car maker Porsche plans to come up with a mid size SUV that would be positioned below the Cayenne and would hence play baby brother to the high selling only Porsche SUV currently on sale. The latest speculation regarding the upcoming Porsche SUV is that it could be launched at the Los Angeles Motor Show that will be held in November this year.

Christened as the Porsche Macan, the new car surely has the potential to become one of the most successful Porsche cars ever.

The Macan will share a lot with the next gen Audi Q5. In spite of the platform and component sharing, Porsche claims that the Macan will be a lot sportier than the new gen Q5. The disparity will arise from Porsche using a different chassis setup, different dynamic control systems and bigger brakes.

Powering the Porsche Macan will be a 2.0-liter, four-cylinder petrol engine that will have a max power output of 220hp. A 3.6-liter naturally-aspirated V6 engine with 295 bhp of peak power will also be offered. The Macan Turbo, which will be the flagship variant, will be powered by a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 that will be good for 370 bhp. The Macan will also get a set of diesel engines that will include a 2.0-liter TDI motor with 190 bhp of max power and a V6 3.0-liter TDI with 250 bhp.

Also on the pipeline might be a hybrid variant that would have a 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbo petrol along with a 54 bhp electric motor. The Porsche Macan will most likely share the all wheel drive system with the Q5.
