That an Aston Martin drop-top is in works is a known fact. We reported in detail when it first emerged that the British supercar maker might be working on a convertible version of its Vanquish performance coupe. Now, what you see here on this page is probably the first ever spy pic of the Aston Martin Vanquish Convertible.

To be christened as the Aston Martin Vanquish Volante, the convertible version of the Vanquish was recently undergoing cold weather testing in Northern Sweden and was caught by the good folks at Carscoop.

As can be made out from the pic of the very thinly disguised prototype of the Vanquish Volante, the car will share a lot of styling cues with the coupe version and will feature a fabric soft top to replace the fixed roof of the Vanquish. Other changes include a revised boot lid with an integrated spoiler and possibly a revised rear bumper.

Like most other Aston Martin Volante models, the Vanquish convertible’s retractable fabric hood can be stowed away between the passenger compartment and the boot area.

Powering the upcoming Aston Martin Vanquish Volante will be the same 5.9-liter V12 engine that powers the coupe. The motor generates a max. power output of 565hp (573PS) and a peak torque figure of 620Nm. The engine is mated to a 6 speed Touchtronic 2 automatic transmission that sends the power to the rear wheels.

Going by the spy pic, the Aston Martin Vanquish Volante is close to make its public debut and a Geneva Motor Show debut next month won’t be expecting too much. Also expect the car to go on sale by the end of this year.
