18-year old KTM Duke rider rams into school bus; driver saves all 12 kids as bus catches fire

In a horrific accident that took place in Bengaluru last week, an 18-year-old KTM Duke rider crashed into a school bus, leading to the bus carrying twelve school children to catch fire. At around 4.15 PM, the rider, Venkatesh, a resident of JP Nagar and a student of Vijaya College hit the school bus after losing control while taking a turn on Kanakapura Road near Tataguni Estate. The impact was such that the bus’s fuel tank got ruptured, and it immediately caught fire.

While Venkatesh lost his life in the incident, the twelve schoolchildren had a narrow escape as Devaraj, the driver of the school bus, managed to save them in the nick of time. Venkatesh, believed to be riding recklessly, was also accompanied by a female pillion, who escaped with minor injuries. The duo were returning from WonderLa amusement park on the KTM Duke and were riding towards Tataguni Estate, without any sort of protective gear.

A passerby alerted the fire and emergency personnel who rushed to the spot and doused the fire. The bus, belonging to Sri Manjunatha School, was completely gutted. The children were sent to their homes in another bus, while Devaraj fled the scene as he feared questioning from the police. Ventkatesh, severely injured after the accident, was rushed to a nearby hospital in a Maruti Omni by a concerned citizen, where he succumbed his injuries later.
