Next gen Suzuki Swift Sport will likely get a 1.4-litre BoosterJet engine under its hood

The details of the upcoming next-gen 2017 Suzuki Swift keep getting juicier day by day. The latest update states that the hatchback will have turbo power under its hood in the Sport avatar. The 2017 Swift Sport will be powered by a 1.4L turbocharged Booster-jet engine that will fire out a power of around 140 horses at the push of the go-faster pedal.

The regular 2017 Swift will draw power from a 1.6L VVT petrol unit that will be good for around 130 bhp. The downsized 1.4L turbo engine will be a re-tuned version of the unit that makes power for the latest Vitara SUV that is available in various international markets. For the Vitara, the turbo unit makes 138 Bhp at 5,500rpm and a torque of 220 Nm between 1,500 and 4,000 rpm. The same power plant will produce more power for the 2017 Swift as it will lighter than the Vitara SUV.

The details of the upcoming 2017 Swift emerged recently when its concept renders were leaked and made rounds on the internet. Following these images that cropped out from a dealer conference in Europe, the hot hatch was spotted during a public road test. Not much of the design details were exhibited by the test mule as it was draped in heavy camouflage but some artists made the guesswork easy with their digital renders of the Swift Sport. The interior of the car was also previewed showcasing the premium cabin design decorated with improved switch gear and materials and an infotainment screen in the center console.

Based on the lightweight platform sourced from the Baleno, the upcoming 2017 Swift is claimed to provide better crash protection, with construction comprising of 41 percent of tensile steel, making it significantly lighter than the outgoing model. For now there are not official details of regarding the launch of the next gen Swift but we can assume the car will be launched in the European markets in early 2017, following which an India launch of the regular model can be expected.
