Helmets are an integral part of safety when riding a motorcycle, scooter or even a bicycle for that matter. A number of people in our country wear a helmet just to save themselves from a fine, rather than a life-threatening accident. In a move to reduce the number of road accidents, ISI approved helmets will be given free of charge to owners in Kerala who buy or take delivery of their vehicles from April 1st.
If you thought your bonus was limited only to the ISI approved helmet, you’re in for a pleasant surprise as accessories such as front and rear number plates, saree guard, rear view mirrors, crash guard and handle-grips would also be given to customers without charging them a single rupee.
It was earlier noticed that dealers in some parts of Kerala were charging customers for number plates and various other accessories following which the Motor Vehicles Department raided several dealerships. The decisions for the aforementioned actions were taken at a meet attended by the commissioner State Transport and Road Safety, Tomin Thachankary and motorcycle manufacturers.

The decision for free accessories comes after a number of complaints against dealers who were reportedly charging money for the basics such as number plates. Dealers who fail to adhere to the decision will end up having the authority for the sale in the state cancelled. Regarding the free helmets, the decision was taken due to the rising number of accidents out of which many turned fatal. The dealers have also been advised not to insist on selecting a particular insurance company as the owner has the right to select any firm based on his or her choice.
