Delhi-ites were in for a surprise this New Year as the government chose the start of 2016 to implement the odd-even formula in the capital of the country. The formula, which went on for 2 weeks since it came into effect on January 1st, saw mixed reactions from people. Now, the second phase of the formula is all set to begin on the 15th of April.

Chief Minister of Delhi, Arvind Kejriwal recently made the announcement that the formula would be brought back into effect as the feedback from the public of the capital was reportedly positive. One change that would take place in the second phase of the odd even formula would be that school-going children in these vehicles would be exempted from the rule.

As seen in the first phase, the rule will be in place for a period of 15 days while the list of exemptions will continue to include two-wheelers, hybrid/ electric vehicles, vehicles running on CNG and politician’s vehicles. The latter, however will not hold water for the chief minister and other ministers.

For the convenience of the public, a new helpline (011-422400400) has been launched where people can ask questions related to the odd-even formula. During the 15 day period, vehicles with their number plates ending with even numbers will be allowed to ply only on even numbered dates while vehicles with an odd number at the end of their registration plate will be allowed to ply only on odd numbered dates.

The rule will be applicable for 6 days a week with Sunday being the only exception. The rule will be applicable from 8 A.M. to 8 P.M. and motorists caught breaking the rule will face a penalty of Rs.2000.
