Quick Review: Bajaj Discover 125M [Images & Ride Report]

What about the ride quality?

The new Discover 125M boasts of conventional telescopic forks up front and a set of twin gas charged shock absorbers at the rear. At city speeds, the ride quality is fairly decent and the suspension soaks in all the ruts quite well. However, the state of affairs changes rapidly as the speeds rise. While the bike is no back-breaker, we feel that the suspension, particularly at the rear, is set a tad too much towards the firmer side.

And what when I need to go apex hunting?

This is one area where the bike has left us really impressed! In spite of the fact that the 125M is aimed at the commuter segment and doesn’t really have any sporty aspirations to speak of, we enjoyed the way the bike behaved while tackling the corners! The 125M’s light weight and good ride-handling balance ensures that the bike is flick-able enough and we found ourselves enjoying every time we pushed the bike into the corners. The 125M’s wheelbase is a tad shorter than that of the 125ST, which makes the bike all the more nimble! And what’s even better is the fact that straight line stability doesn’t seem to have taken a hit.

The Eurogrip tyres, while far from being the stickiest rubbers available, manage to do a decent job with keeping the hairy moments at bay. Also, while they do love to squeal even under moderate braking, they do not really seem to have a really detrimental effect on the braking. That said, one thing we need to mention here is that the bike’s front disc brake isn’t really the sharpest of the lot and lacks the sense of urgency that is generally associated with disc brakes. However, Bajaj says that the front brake has been deliberately tuned in this manner, all in a bid to keep first time users from unintentionally locking the wheel and ending up in a soup!

Does it have all the features that one expects from an entry level 125cc machine?

It surely does! Bajaj has always been known for bestowing its bikes with enough features to dazzle a potential customer. The new Discover 125M, in spite of being an entry level model, is no different and comes with many features that help increase the VFM quotient. Here are some of such features-

  • Electric Start
  • Gas filled Nitrox Suspension
  • Low Maintenance Battery
  • Petal Disc Brake (Optional)
  • Aluminum side sets
  • 4 Valve Engine

Whoa! How much did you say it retails for?

Prices for the new Discover 125M start at INR 50,499 only and at this price point, the new bike comes across as quite a value for money proposition! What say?

While we’ve tried to cover most of the important aspects of the new bike in this report here, stay tuned to Motoroids for a more comprehensive Bajaj Discover 125M review.

  1. New generation Discovers are Sh**
The earlier versions of Discover were symphony notes. The grunt was masculine, the reliability was unquestionable. The new generation has none of the vital characteristics. Early rusting and reliability issues crop up after like 6 months. Please BAJAJ, bring back the old warhorse.

  2. I hate Bajaj Discover 125 ST. I would compare it to a vibrator. Just a vibrating bike that you would scare to drive above 45 KM/hr. Such a waste of money.

Mr. Bajaj, Rather than launching so many variants bikes, Please launch a quality bike. Your sick customer (Have told many people not to buy Discover)
