The KTM 390 Duke India launch has been in news since quite a few months now. Only yesterday, we reported that the bike would come to us within a matter of 30-45 days and today, more details of the bike have emerged on the cyber space. These details come from the good folks at  Overdrive who were recently invited to a press unveiling of the KTM 390 Duke at Austria.

The bike is really close to being launched in India and the hotly anticipated 375cc variant of the Duke is sure to open gates to an all new section of entry level performance bikes in our country. As we reported earlier, the bike would have a 0-100kmph timing of just 5 secs and would have a top whack in the vicinity of 160kmph. The KTM 390 Duke is said to be capable of hitting 130kmph in scant 10-11 secs and would come with a really well sorted out handling package. The bike would have a max power output of 44bhp and a peak torque figure of 35Nm. (Scroll down to check out the technical specs). The engine would be mated to a 6 speed gearbox with revised gear ratios.

The India spec 390 Duke will wear Metzeler M5 Sportec tyres that should give the bike really nice grip, even in the wet. Metzeler is the premium brand of Pirelli and is known as the makers of one of the best two wheeler tyres.  The Duke 390 will be seen sharing its crankcase castings with the Duke 200. The 390 Duke’s motor benefits from forged piston and a chrome plated cylinder. The KTM Duke 390 will come to us with ABS as standard. This ABS system is build by Bosch and can be switched on or off by the rider.

The KTM 390 Duke is expected to be priced around INR 2 lakhs and would become the flagship product of KTM India. The mouth watering price tag is courtesy high level of localization.

Good times ahead for Indian bike aficionados. No?

  1. No doubt the 390 looks like a dream machine especially on power delivery, but i really wish they increase the tank capacity to say 17- 18 litres (considering the average would be around 30-32kmpl) , that will make this a long ranger and ideal for touring….also the pillion seat needs to be wider / bigger, hooks for luggage would help….i own a duke 200 and jus luv it, but wish ktm comes with an upgrade offer ! 🙂

  2. @mohit:
Ok, that’s bad.. hope you have a better time with the duke.

but my point is, the duke could be made much better. with better wind protection and higher cruising speed, it can be be something much more than just a phenomenally accelerating vehicle..

  3. Well I recently sold my cbr 250r. It is not a great machine. I took it regularly for weekend rides cruising at 100-130… occasional top end blasts and the engine lost spunk at 20000kms
I changed the clutch still didn’t help. I lost top end. Bike refused to go beyond 125kmphand engine became gruffy. Chain sprocket also changed. Too much maintenance.. expensive spares usually not in Stock and bad quality components. I got the engine head piston n block changed under warranty. And sold the bike n booked duke 390.ktm service is much better. Btw… mine is the 4 th bike in my cbr 250r group to have engine work done. 5 more are awaiting engine parts in the service center. Now say. …

  4. hmm.. 5 sec 100kmph sounds really good,
but then the CBR does 150+ kmph (and can do 130-140 all day long, even though it reaches there much slower than the 390) So even though it comes with 175 CC and 18 bhp extra, i’m a bit disappointed that they’ve geared the duke for more acceleration and not top end. Wish they came out with a half faired version that can cruise at 160 – 170 and can go up to a genuine 200…
