Yamaha SZ-RR and SZ-S variants launched in India

We reported in detail when the Indian subsidiary of Yamaha launched two new variants in its SZ series of econocommuters along with launching a new variant of the Ray yesterday.

Apart from launching the Yamaha Ray Z, Yamaha has also launched two new variants of its 150cc motorcycle.  After the R15 and the FZ series of motorcycles, the SZ was Yamaha’s ambitious offering to garner its targeted market share in the executive commuter segment. Powered by the same engine that powers the FZ, albeit in a state of detune, the SZ saw reasonable sales but not to Yamaha’s expectations. Now, the SZ-RR and SZ-S, the two new variants, are a part of a re-attempt by Yamaha at fulfilling their objectives.

The Yamaha SZ-RR gets a (hold your breath) aluminium grab handles, a smoked visor and a new paint scheme that helps in distinguishing the new variant from the existing variants (read- SZ, SZ-X and SZ-R).

To be honest, the RR tag doesn’t bring in any sort of performance upgrade. What it does bring though, are some cosmetic upgrades which might appeal to a certain section of buyers in this segment.  SZ has always been known for being a refined and smooth performer with good fuel efficiency. The bike has 12.1 bhp of power and a 5-speed transmission.

The SZ-RR goes on sale for a price of INR 62,500*. The SZ-S, which is positioned at the low end of SZ line up and misses out on some bits that are found on the RR, goes on sale for a price of INR 59,500* (*all prices are ex-showroom Delhi). The two new variants will go on sale next month.

Other than the launch of ‘cosmetically upgraded’ variants of the Ray and the SZ, Yamaha has also launched a new brand slogan – “Revs your heart”.

So, do the cosmetically upgraded Ray Z and the Yamaha SZ motorcycles ‘rev your heart’? Do let us know.
