Yamaha Electric Two-Wheelers Being Considered For India

We may soon see India Yamaha Motor enter the electric two-wheeler space in the Indian market. The Japanese two-wheeler brand is reportedly conducting a feasibility study to launch electric two-wheelers in India. However, the EV products cannot be the complete replacement to the current internal combustion engines.

In an interview to news agency PTI, Yamaha Motor Research and Development India MD Yasuo Ishihara said, “We are at present conducting a feasibility study in this area (electric two wheelers). Yamaha has an edge in this segment as we already have such products in other countries. Transferring such products to India, it is not so difficult. I believe that the EV products cannot be the complete replacement to the current internal combustion engines. This is the one of the biggest study points.”

Ishihara also said that the major chunk of investment will be for power units and batteries. The two-wheeler maker is also considering infrastructure development in collaboration with a partner.

Speaking about the investments in the project, Ishihara added, “Investment shall mainly be for power units and batteries. Infrastructure development in collaboration with some partners may be another area where we would look forward to make our investments.”

There is no timeline set for the possible arrival of electric two-wheelers from Yamaha. While we wait for an official announcement, let us know your views about the possible arrival of electric Yamaha two-wheelers in the Indian market through the comments section below.
