In an unfortunate and gruesome incident in west Delhi’s Rajouri Garden area, a woman learning to drive hit a man and crushed him to death on Wednesday morning. After running over the man – a 40 year old driver named Pramod, the panic stricken, newbie lady driver stepped on the gas instead of the brakes, and dragged his body for almost 20 feet before finally hitting a parked car, squeezing him between the two vehicles.
The woman, identified as Manisha Grover, was learning how to drive with her husband by her side. Pramod,was on his way to work when the car, a Maruti Wagon R hit him from behind. After the incident, the duo rushed a grievously injured Pramod to a hospital. When the condition of the victim deteriorated, Grover and her husband fled the hospital, fearing arrest.

Initial lead for the police came from the CCTV footage of DDU hospital, which showed the injured victim being brought to the hospital by a couple in a silver colored Wagon R. Following that, a CCTV at a hand-loom shop in Tagore Garden captured the entire incident. Based on that footage, which showed the man, half stuck under the same car trying to walk through his hands, being dragged by the same car, the accused were tracked down and arrested on Thursday morning.
A case of rash driving and death due to negligence was registered at the Rajouri Garden police station. The accused were granted bail on the same day. However, proceedings are soon expected to follow in court.
