India’s only international off-road motor-sport event, the Force Gurkha RFC India has announced Wockhardt Hospitals as the medical partner for the 2015 edition of the motorsport extravaganza which will be held in Goa from 24th to 31st July.
The India Edition of the Rainforest Challenge (RFC), which is counted among the top ten toughest motor races in the World, was launched in Goa in August last year amidst much fanfare. The event saw 22 teams competing for the RFC India title in extremely tough off-road conditions where they had to complete 24 Special Stages (SS) in four competitive legs at various locations in Goa including Dona Paula, Morlem and Kumari. This year, around 40 teams are expected to compete in the event and taking care of their first-aid as well as other medical needs will be the responsibility of the team of specialists at Cuncolim-based NUSI Wockhardt Hospital.
While the first competitive leg, the Prologue, will take place in Dona Paula, the other three legs of the event, i.e. the Predator, the Terminator and the Twilight Zone, will be held in unchartered terrains of Goa. NUSI Wockhardt Hospital will have an important task of ensuring that everyone involved in Force Gurkha RFC India 2015, right from the competitors to the organizers to hundreds of touring adventurers and off-roading enthusiasts who will be converging in Goa to witness this one-of-its-kind event held in the country, have immediate access to medical assistance in case of an injury or any other medical problem arising during the course of the event. A fully-equipped ambulance will be on standby throughout the course to deal with minor injuries, food poisoning, insect bites, skin rashes caused by the rain, fractures et al.
“We strictly follow the RFC international guidelines, including a tough scrutiny process prior to the competition, to ensure the safety of all the participants. However, having a reputed hospital like Wockhardt as a medical partner is an important precautionary measure. An event such as RFC India is quite unpredictable as on one hand we have extremely tough challenges in store for the competitors to test their driving and vehicle recovery skills under extreme off-road conditions, on the other hand all of us are at the mercy of Mother Nature for our survival during the latter part of the event. Hence, it is best to be prepared for all kind of emergencies.” said Mr. Ashish Gupta, Founder & Director of Cougar Motorsport Pvt. Ltd, the company that is responsible for bringing and organizing RFC in India.
As per Dr Anuj Tiwari, Center Head, NUSI Wockhardt Hospital, “NUSI Wockhardt Hospital is Goa’s first and only NABH accredited super specialty facility. With an expertise in Minimal Access Surgery, Internal Medicine and Critical Care along with Emergency & Trauma Services, our team of specialists are well-equipped to handle any kind of medical emergency that may arise during an extreme off-road motorsport event such as RFC India. It’s great to partner with such a prestigious event and we will ensure that all the injuries and medical problems – small or big – during the 8-day long event are handled quickly and efficiently by our team of experts.”
