Willys had been around for a while, and all along they haven’t just been building the fabled Jeep. You see, from 1962-66, they had also built a short run of sportscars in Brazil called the Willys Interlagos based on the Renault Alpine A108. Now, Italian classic car specialists Maggiora and Carrozzeria Viotti have whipped up a retro-futuristic iteration of the same with the all-new 2015 Willys AW 380 Berlinetta sports car.
The car, dimensionally similar to the Porsche 911, is a beautiful nod to the Interlagos, with its classic proportions and similar lines enacted once again amidst contemporary air. Its pretty, and backed by some potent mechanicals too. Power comes from a rear mounted, 3.8-liter, twin-turbo, six-cylinder boxer engine with 610 hp and 612 lb-ft of torque. Combined with a carbon-fiber body that tips the scales at just 1,350 kg, 0-100 km/hrs is claimed to be a mental at 2.7 seconds.[The title should have read super-car, not sports car]. Top speed is north of 210 mph with power being sent to the rear wheels via a six-speed sequential paddle-shifted manual transmission.
The AW 380 coupe sits on staggered (19″/20″), period, single block wheels, sports independent MacPherson struts up front and multi-link suspension at the back, while hauling duties come from ceramic composite brakes, with 380mm front, 360mm rear discs married to six-piston in front, and four-piston rear calipers . The exotic would be limited to just 110 units, the 2015 Willys AW 380 Berlinetta to be assembled in Turin, Italy, priced from INR 2.9 Crores a piece!
