To the uninitiated, the VW Polo that we drive here has a lineage that goes back 40 years. To celebrate four decades of the Polo’s existence, Volkswagen has launched an “Original” special edition in Germany. Available to order in a limited run of 1,000 units, the VW Polo Original is offered exclusively with the five-door version. Prices start from €19,950 (approximately INR 13.9 lakh).
Over the standard Polo, the Original special edition can be characterized by LED headlights, a gloss black radiator grille, darkened taillights, “Portago” 16-inch alloy wheels, “Original” emblems on the front fenders, “Original” lettering on the door sill trims, and an exclusive Honey Orange Metallic paintwork.
Inside, the VW Polo Original gets a multifunction steering wheel, leather trimmed gear lever knob and handbrake grip with “Truffle”-colored stitching, sports seats featuring a period plaid pattern in black/orange with faux leather side bolsters and headrests, along with aluminum accents on the pedals and center console.
Standard equipment includes Climatronic air conditioning system, Media-In speakerphone and multimedia socket, while safety systems include Front Assist with City Emergency Braking and a rear view camera. The VW Polo Original is available with as many as six engine-transmission combinations.
