Volvo to launch long wheelbase S60 in Chinese market by 2012 end

Regular readers will know that the Volvo S60 has impressed me no end. It may be noted that the popular Swedish car maker is now owned by Chinese manufacturer Geely and hence, a ‘China-specific’ model makes considerable sense. While BMW has the long wheelbase 3 series for the Chinese market, rival Volvo is planning to reply to this move with the launch of a long wheelbase version of the S60. The S60 long wheelbase should be out by the end of this year. It may be also be noted that Chinese car market already has the long wheelbase S80 on sale and possibilities of a longer S60 hence, makes even more sense. Now, our car market has always believed in the “longer is better” theory and a long wheelbase car surely has a lot of luxury quotient going for it. It will be interesting to see whether or not Volvo brings this car to India.
