Volvo S60 gets NDTV award, shot in the arm to get mainstream

Volvo is one of the best known family car makers in the Europe. However, the automobile manufacturer which has safety as one of its biggest USPs isn’t as popular in India. The recently introduced Volvo S60 tries to make brand more accessible, more likeable and younger looking. Seems like the S60 sedan has really succeeded in its endeavours to an extent. The S60 bagged the ‘Full Size Sedan of the Year Award’ by NDTV Car & Bike Awards 2012, for the sporty and distinct Volvo S60 which was also nominated for ‘Car of the Year’.

The award was received by Tomas Ernberg, Managing Director, Volvo Auto India along with Sudeep Narayan, Marketing & PR Director, Volvo Auto India, at a ceremony held at Buddh International Circuit in Greater Noida. Volvo S60 offers unique features such as World’s first ‘Pedestrian Detection’ with full auto brake, Advanced Control with Torque Vectoring, Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), and Laser Assisted Automatic Braking – City Safety, Turn with steering lights (Active Bending Lights) among others.

Launched in the first quarter of 2011 in India, Volvo S60 has been a great success all over the world and has won over 34 coveted awards including – Golden Klaxon in ‘Technological Breakthrough’ category, Russia, FuturAuto Award for Pedestrian Safety, Belgium, Scottish Executive Car of the Year’ award 2010, Car of the year 2011, Norway, Car of the Year 2011, Greece, Sports Car of the Year 2010, Russia, The Best Driving-Dynamic Luxury Sedan, China, Fashion-leading Car, China, United States Car of the Year, UK Best Executive diesel for D5, Canada Best New Sports Sedan among others.
