According to reports :

  • The transmission on the Vento diesel automatic will be a 6-speed DSG unit
  • The DSG will come mated to the upcoming 104 BHP 1.5 liter TDI engine (scaled down version of the current 1.6 liter for excise benefits)
  • The Diesel Vento AT is expected to be launched in the 3rd quarter of this year

Volkswagen currently offers the Vento with the 1.6 liter petrol and diesel motors. Both the motors develop 105 PS of max power and come mated to a 5 speed manual transmission. The 1.6 liter petrol automatic has been recently discontinued after the launch of the Vento 1.2 TSI AT with the 7 speed DSG. This 1.2 liter turbocharged motor churns out 105 PS @ 5000 RPM and 175 Nm of peak torque @ 1500-4100 RPM.

Currently, the only car to come with diesel automatic variant is the Hyundai Verna with a 4 speed torque convertor. The Vento automatic, with the lightening quick DSG box, would be a great option for urban commuters. With the ever-growing traffic in the cities, people can give rest to their left leg and save themselves from the hassle of changing gears. Diesel engines also provide better fuel economy than the petrol motors.
