The folks at Autocar India have scooped the Volkswagen Polo facelift (known internally as the Polo GP). This updated Polo is
expected to be on sale by May 2014 in the Indian market. The exterior of the car is expected to undergo minor tweaks and hence there won’t be much to differentiate the facelifted Polo from the previous car except for a mildly tweaked bumper and headlights. The
interior is expected to be refreshed as well and hopefully will come with more equipment too.

But according to Autocar India, the big news  is under the hood. VW’s 1.5 diesel, which is a nothing but the downsized version of the Vento’s EA189 1.6 TDI mill will now be plonked in the VW Polo facelift. As this engine will be under 1500cc, it will be eligible for the lowr excise tax bracket for small cars and we hope Volkswagen passes on the benefit to the car buyers.

This 1.5 TDI mill is likely to come in two states of tune- 89 bhp and 104 bhp and will replace the 1.2 litre three-cylinder diesel
from the Polo and the 1.6 TDI from the Vento respectively.

The Polo will be get the 89 bhp engine whilst the more powerful 104 bhp variant of the 1.5 diesel, which is expected to come with a
variable-geometry-turbo (VGT) will be plonked in the Vento saloon.

With this new engine, VW Polo diesel will get a proper 4 cylinder motor which it lacked in comparison to its competitors.

Stay tuned to Motoroids for more updates on the VW Polo facelift.
