The Volkswagen Passat executive sedan has got a new trim level and a new engine variant for European car market.

This new variant is powered by a four cylinder 1.4-litre TSI petrol engine that benefits from a supercharger and has a max power output of 158bhp. The new engine replaces the 1.8-liter TSI motor that has same max power. The 1.4 TSI not just is equally powerful but also has lower CO2 emissions of 144g/km and better fuel economy of 45.6mpg (in UK combined cycle). These figures for the six-speed manual gearbox variant (there’s also a 7-speed DSG).

This new engine can be had with the R-Line trim level, Highline trim level and with the CC four-door coupe.

Talking about the new R-Line trim level, the new package offers all the equipment that is available on the Passat S and comes with a bodykit that consists of different bumpers, side skirts and tailgate spoiler along with fog lights with cornering function, a 15mm lowered sports suspension, 18-inch ‘Kansas’ alloy wheels with low-profile 235/40 tyres, bi-xenon headlights with LED DRLs and LED taillights.

The R-Line can also be had with a 1.6-liter 104bhp TDI diesel engine mated to a six-speed manual gearbox and a 2.0-liter 138bhp TDI diesel engine mated to a six-speed manual or DSG transmission.
