Volkswagen has announced the name of its upcoming Indian compact sedan that will be showcased at the 13th edition of the Delhi 2016 Auto Expo. Tagged as the ‘Volkswagen AMEO’, this compact sedan will see its world premiere at the motoring event and will be on display at the Volkswagen Pavilion during the press and public days of exposition.
Derived from the Latin word ‘Amo’, meaning ‘I love’, Volkswagen Ameo is a special offering that is claimed to combine the brand values of best-in-class safety features, build quality and a great driving experience. The design language is underlined by general bursts of emotion, conceptualized to move the body, mind and soul.
The Volkswagen Ameo has been designed specifically for the Indian market, and will be manufactured at the company’s Chakan facility. By marking its entry into the dynamic compact sedan space, the Volkswagen Ameo is expected to be a game changer for the brand in India.
The AMEO is based on the PQ24 platform that underpins the Polo and the Vento. Thus this upcoming compact sedan will shares most of its design traits with the other two. Mechanically, expect to see a 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol engine and a 1.5-litre four-cylinder diesel engine, both paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox.
