The Volkswagen Jetta facelift has been silently launched in India. The updated Jetta goes on sale for a starting price of INR 13.7 lakhs and comes with a set of minor updates that intend to infuse some freshness into the almost 3 years old car. The top of the line diesel variant, which comes equipped with a DSG ‘box, has a price of INR 19.43 lakhs.

Commenting on the launch, Arvind Saxena, Managing Director, Volkswagen Group Sales India, said,”With Volkswagen’s acclaimed engineering expertise, we are able to build some of the most comfortable, safe, fuel-efficient and performance-oriented luxury sedans, which offer outstanding power delivery and driving dynamics. We are sure that the new Jetta, with its range of petrol and diesel engine options and optional 6-speed DSG automatic transmission, will offer a delightful driving experience for premium-segment car buyers in the Indian market”

It must be noted that the Jetta has been on sale in India since over two years now and has managed to clock decent sales figures. However, with the advent of the new Skoda Octavia, popularity of the VW sibling has taken quite a hit and the facelift is aimed at revitalizing the sales performance of the Jetta.

The Volkswagen Jetta facelift boasts of an updated set of headlights, which are pretty similar to the ones on the bigger Passat. Akin to the Passat’s headlights, the ones on the refreshed Jetta sport a L-shaped Daytime Running LEDs (DRLs) clusters. The Trendline and Comfortline trim levels also get a set of new design ‘Sedona’ alloy wheels.

Other than these minor cosmetic changes, the car get additional features such as-

  • Auto Climate Control (standard across all the variants)
  • Dual Zone Headlight washer (for Highline)

Mechanically, the car remains unchanged and continues to be offered with a 1.4 litre TSI gasoline engine and a 2.0 litre TDI oil burner.

The turbo petrol motor here is the same unit that powers the base variants of the Octy. For the Jetta though, this engine has a lower max power output of 122 PS and a lower peak torque of 200 Nm . The Jetta 1.4 petrol boasts of an ARAI certified Fuel Economy of 14.69 kmpl.

The Jetta’s 2.0 litre oil burner has a max power of 140 PS and peak torque of 320 Nm. The gearbox options for this motor include a 6 speed DSG automatic and a 6-speed manual gearbox.

Won’t it be interesting to see if the Jetta, bestowed with these minor updates, would be able fend off the heat from the new Octavia?
